ITA – In questi giorni di pioggia e vento è stato impossibile non pensare a Cristian, che a novembre ha deciso di passare qualche settimana a Cagliari per avere un po’ di tregua dal freddo rumeno. Chissà quanti gradi ci sono adesso a Bucarest e chissà in quale altra mite località sta passando il suo tempo Cristian.
Poco prima che partisse abbiamo pranzato insieme, come quasi tutti i giorni che ha trascorso qui, e gli abbiamo fatto “qualche” domanda per tenere meglio traccia del suo passaggio, come ci piace fare con tutti i digital nomad che ospitiamo tra le nostre scrivanie. È passato un po’ di tempo, ma vuoi per il clima vuoi per la nostalgia, è arrivato il momento di concederci qualche minuto per raccontare della nostra chiacchierata con Cristian.
Domanda. Per prima cosa vorremmo sapere qualcosa in più su di te: chi sei, che lavoro fai, come occupi il tuo tempo libero?
Risposta. Sono un software developer, in particolare un full stack web developer, e prima lavoravo come terzo ufficiale di ponte su grandi navi mercantili. Sono una persona introversa, ambiziosa, curiosa e mi piace fare battute ironiche. Forse il mio difetto più grande è l’incapacità di essere felice con quello che ho. Fun fact: rompo le cose per capire come funzionano! Forse anche questo è un difetto ? Mi piace passare il mio tempo libero all’aria aperta: arrampicata e tennis sono le mie attività preferite del momento. E amo anche le escursioni! In passato mi sono divertito con la fotografia, la chitarra, e a fare cocktail.
Domanda. Perché hai scelto di lavorare lontano da casa? Dove sei già stato, prima di Cagliari?
Risposta. Penso che il desiderio di lavorare lontano da casa sia uno dei passi del processo di scoperta del mondo, e più in generale del processo di conoscenza di me stesso. Direi che per me è stata una mossa quasi ovvia. Quando mi sono reso conto che sarebbe stato possibile farlo, ho dovuto semplicemente provare, per capire se ce l’avrei fatta. Prima di Cagliari, sono stato in alcune città rumene: Brasov, Cluj, Oradea e poi Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria, Budapest, Barcellona, Leuven in Belgio, Paphos a Cipro.
Domanda. Perché hai scelto proprio Cagliari? E soprattutto ha soddisfatto le tue aspettative?
Risposta. Riguardo alle aspettative, non ho una risposta precisa perché prima di partire non ne avevo molte. La cosa migliore sono state le persone – è stato davvero sorprendente scoprire quanto tutti fossero gentili e accoglienti. Non solo nel coworking. Sono rimasto colpito anche dalla bellezza della città e dell’intera isola, per quello che ho potuto vedere. È stato tutto fantastico!
Domanda. Come scegli le tue destinazioni? Cosa cerchi?
Risposta. Adesso, dopo un po’ di esperienze e dopo aver imparato alcune cose, posso dire che la città che scelgo deve avere uno spazio di coworking, un bel clima caldo, ed essere non troppo lontana da luoghi dove posso arrampicarmi e fare escursioni
Domanda. Perché hai scelto Open Campus? Pro e contro del nostro spazio di coworking
Risposta. Ho scelto Open Campus perché mi piacevano le foto che ho visto su google maps: mi hanno fatto pensare ad un grande campus universitario! Non avevo aspettative, ma sono molto contento della mia scelta. Per quanto riguarda i pro direi la posizione, mi sono goduto tutti i giorni il tragitto verso il campus e la location, la struttura e gli eventi che organizzate, per esempio i meet up di Machine Learning. I contro? Direi anche in questo la posizione, perché arrivare senza una macchina è un po’ difficile.
Domanda. Oltre che venire in Open Campus e seguire le nostre attività, cosa stai facendo nel tempo libero?
Risposta. Sono stato a un incontro di scambio linguistico in inglese che ho trovato su MeetUp. È stato molto bello! C’erano circa 30 studenti Erasmus, solo dopo ho scoperto che loro si conoscevano già tutti e che io ero praticamente un intruso, ma è stato molto divertente! Mi sono arrampicato (ovviamente) a Masua, e ho fatto trekking (ovviamente) a Gola di Gorropu, sono andato al cinema, ho fatto delle belle chiacchierate con il mio coinquilino, e ho visitato qualche paese e qualche bella spiaggia vicino a Cagliari.
Domanda. Stai programmando altri viaggi (siamo sicuri di sì!)? Prossime destinazioni?
Risposta. Solo il prossimo: un viaggio a Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Cerco di non fare più programmi del necessario!

EN – In these days of rain and wind, it’s impossible not to think about Cristian, who decided to spend a few weeks in Cagliari to get some respite from the Romanian cold. When he was here was November and the weather in Sardinia was a lot more pleasant. Who knows how many degrees there are now in Bucharest and who knows in which other mild resort is spending his time Cristian.
Just before he left we had lunch together, as almost every day he spent here, and we asked him “some” questions to keep track of his passage, as we like to do with all the digital nomads that we host. It’s been a bit of time, and now it’s time to tell you about our chat with Cristian.
Question. First things first, we would like to know something about you: who are you, what’s your job, what do you like to do in your free time?
Answer. I am a software developer, specifically full stack web developer, ex third deck officer on big commercial ships. I am an introvert person, ambitious, curios and I like to make ironic jokes. I think my biggest vice is that I cannot be happy with what I have. Fun fact… I always break thinghs to understand them better. I think this could be a vice as well. I like to spend my free time outdoors. I like rock climbing and tennis at the moment. Also hiking! Before I played with photography, guitar, making cocktails
Question. Why have you chose to work for some time away from home? Where have you already been, before Cagliari?
Answer. I think the desire to work away from home is one step in a process of discovering the world around me but I believe it was more about knowing myself. It was a logical and obvious move for me. When I became aware that it was a possibility, I had to try it. I just wanted to see if I could do it.
Before Cagliari, I’ve been to some Romanian cities – Brasov, Cluj, Oradea and then Veliko – Tarnovo in Bulgaria, Budapest, Barcelona, Leuven in Belgium, Paphos in Cyprus.
Question. Why did you choose Cagliari? Did Cagliari meet your expectations?
Answer. About the expectations, I can’t really give a clear answer because I didn’t have any expectations. The amazing part were the people – for me it was very surprising to see how warm and welcoming everybody was. Not only in the coworking. Also the beauty of the city and the entire island – as much as I could see. That was amazing.
Question. How do you choose a city where to live for a while? What do you look for?
Answer. Now, after I’ve learned some things, I look for a co-working place, warm weather, climbing spots and places to hike.
Question. Why did you choose Open Campus? Pros and cons of our coworking space?
Answer. I choose Open Campus just because I liked the pictures I saw on the google maps: it made me think of some big university campus. That was all the reason. I didn’t had any expectations but I was very pleased. Pros? I would say the location, I enjoyed the way to the campus every day, the building itself, the fact that you organize events such as Machine Learning. About Cons – location again, because it’s a bit difficult without a car…
Question. During your stay in Cagliari, what have you done in your freetime?
Answer. In my freetime here, I went for an English exchange language event I found on MeetUp. This was very nice. They were about 30 people from Erasmus program and I later found out that they all knew each other and I was like an intruder there, but it was so fun! I went climbing at Masua, hiking at Gola di Gorropu, I went to cinema, I had some lovely talks with my flat-mate, and of course I visited few cities close to Cagliari and some beaches nearby.
Question. Are you planning other trips ( We know you are!)? Next destinations?
Answer. I am planning a trip to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Just that. I try not to make plans more than it is necessary.
